No introductions are required for Mr and Mrs Bubbles themselves. Ann, the owner, and Pieter, the winemaker, at Pieter Ferreira are nothing short of South African legends. 

Pieter has always been a fearless boundary breaker when it comes to producing some of the world’s best bubbly – his journey started out with three harvests in Champagne before returning to South Africa where he chairs the Cap Classique Association and is a member of the Cape Winemakers Guild. The Extra Brut 2017 is no exception to his rule of excellence.

The 2018 vintage produced Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with great elegance. This release offers wonderful balance, ripe fruit and restraint. The Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were hand-selected and hand-picked. After whole bunch pressing with the separation of cuvée from the taille the clear juice was fermented in stainless steel. Only cuvée juice is used for fermentation. After the first fermentation, the wine was blended and prepared for secondary fermentation in the bottle. The wine stays on the lees for 54 months and then is riddled and disgorged.

We recommend decanting this wine to reveal the complex beauty within, starting with cherry blossom, white pepper and hints of nutmeg, underpinned by subtle tones of orange blossom, cinnamon and black mulberry. 

Passel Estate, founded by Wendy and Barry Stimpson, is in the heart of the spectacular Margaret River region. Delicious, dry amber wine made in traditional Georgian Qvervri. An aromatic nose of citrus blossom, dried apricots and almonds. On the palate there are hints of burnt orange rind and dried peach, structured with soft tannins and a long finish.

Shilda Winery is located in the Alazani River Valley at the foot of the Caucasus mountains, the heartland of Georgian wine producing region, Kakheti. Tsiakkas Winery is located in Pelendri village in Limassol region. Costas Tsiakkas established the winery in 1988 which he runs with his wife Maria. They own 5 hectares of mountainous vineyards which are located at an altitude of 1000-1400m. The winery emphasises the production of high quality wines from indigenous varieties.

Umeshu fruit soaked in Ginjo-grade sake give a wonderfully almond and plumby fruity sake.

A much warmer site than ‘Clos Les Bussieres’, ‘Les Caraby’ is a small 1 hectare ‘clos’ tagged on to the end of Mercurey’s most famous premier cru, ‘Clos du Roy’. Almost always the first vineyard picked, this is a fast ripening site with its own little valley of both north and south facing vines. This vintage has produced a really well balanced wine with ripe tropical fruits jumping out of the apple and citrus background. Really good texture and weight. No new oak was used in this vineyard.
