Rosé

Piquepoul Noir has been grown in Southern France for at least 200 years, but is now rarely seen. Originally from the Languedoc, it is one of the 13 grapes permitted in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Pale pink colour, light bodied and clean with refreshing acidity, bright rose petal aromas and citrus notes on the finish.

Innovation is rare in the wine world, but the innovation of a new category, that of a year­round Rose drinking, is one of the few major changes of drinking habit that has occurred in the recent past. This is a style of wine that will help even the most hardened of sceptics see the wine through rose tinted spectacles!

From the Euganei hills in Veneto, Pinot Nero vines were planted by the Biscardo family over 20 years ago in volcanic soils, rich in minerals and clay. These characters are found in their Rosapasso: a smooth, fresh and structured rosé, light salmon-pink in colour.

A fine pale-coloured rosé with delicate aromas of pomegranates and raspberry and a distinctive flintiness. There’s finesse and elegance on the palate with flavours of soft red fruits, a gentle silky texture and a lingering fresh acidity on the finish.

If you ask someone what is their favourite wine, most would mention a red or a white. Very few would give a rosé. But, (for us) South Africa has taken the 'common' rosé and turned it into an art form. 

Such a delicate and perfumed rosé. Take a bit of sophisticated Provence rosé, give it a little hint of international dynamic, a little bit of relaxed "take me as I am" S'African personality and the result is this deliciously drinkable rosé from Stellenbosch.

Winemaker Nadia Barnard:

In October 2022 Penny had the great pleasure of visiting Waterkloof Estate on the slopes of the Schapenberg, Stellenbosch with a few colleagues from the UK wine trade. They spent the good part of two days being driven around this beautiful, sustainably managed piece of land by winemaker, Nadia Barnard. All of the vineyards on the estate are farmed following organic and biological principles. Here at Cellar Door Wines we've always been huge fans of Waterkloof wines. It is always lovely to taste Nadia's wines in Saint Albans, but to be able to do so at Waterkloof, with the woman herself, was extra special. Tasting wine at the place of its birth explains the why and the how of its individuality. The people behind the vineyard and winery are also key components in the equation. The Cape and Waterkloof has such diversity of wine style with a great price quality ratio.

Subtle raspberry and strawberry aromas lead to fresh, cherry flavours on the palate. Crisp, elegant and very moreish!

A delicious French Rose with all the style and sophistication that characterise French wines.

Vinified from the local Tannat grape variety with some Cabernet Franc and Merlot, harvested fully ripe in October. In the winery the secret of modern rosé vinification is to capture all the delicate aromatics and flavours of red grape varieties but then to cool vinify the pale-coloured juice with all the expertise of white wine vinification.

This is superb value for money rosé, 100% Cabernet Franc rose from the slopes of Stellenbosch's Simonsburg Mountain.

Zorgvliet's focus is entirely Bordelaise so a Cab Franc rose is a natural fit and a delightfully different product within our South African portfolio. Pale onion skin colour with bright, crunchy red cherry fruit flavours and a full, textural finish.

The beauty of this wine extends from the bottle to the liquid contents. Layers of raspberries, strawberries and fresh melon on the nose. A fresh, clean wine with great acidity for food pairing, but roundness to enjoy on its own. Star bright in colour, vibrant pale pink that has flecks of copper.
The spice notes from the Syrah provides a dry, white pepper characteristic across the entire palate. A touch of Rolle gives great acidity and brightness that lends notes of winter citrus, spice with a warming finish.

Domaine Lafran Veyrolles is an estate with a superb terroir and is widely recognised as one of the top three producers in the appellation. Jean-Marie Castell runs this small, traditional estate with just 10 ha of vines on the famous red clay soil of Bandol.  The estate nestles in and is protected by the hills of the Cadière d'Azur and benefits from a maritime climate. The estate works organically and the yields are kept extremely low. Domaine Lafran Veyrolles reds have made it one of the star performers of the appellation … but don’t overlook the rosé wines as they deserve attention too!

Very pale, a transparent onion skin pink. Generous fruit and restrained elegance: flavours of white peach, melon and berries, with satisfying weight and a clean, dry finish.

Pale salmon colour, with elegant aromas of strawberry, cherry along with hints of lime and tangerine peel. These notes develop further with a distinct floral character such as white rose, hyacinth and primrose. 

The palate shows intense notes of strawberry, cherry and even toffee and Jasmine which linger, for a fresh crisp and long-lasting finish. Made with 100% Moschofilero, which is a variety native to the Peloponnese Peninsula, producing a light and fresh Rose with a delicious variety of aromas and flavours.

The Lantides Estate is situated in the Ancient site of Nemea, in the heart of the
Peloponnese, north of Argos and just west of Corinth on the coast of the Aegean. Panikos and his son Simon run 25 hectares of vineyards which are situated around the mountainous valley of Skoteini in altitude between 500 - 650 meters above sea level. 

The Peloponnese Peninsula is a large landform on the southern edge of
continental Greece. Covered in mountains, rugged plateaus and valleys, the
area has an abundance of mesoclimates and terroirs suitable for premium
viticulture. Native grape varieties such as Agiorgitiko, Moschofilero and
Mavrodaphne are planted throughout the peninsula. The modern Peloponnese
wine industry began to grow following the end of World War II, and today the
region is one of the most viticulturally productive in Greece.
