The Allendorf family has lived and worked in the Rheingau for 700 years. Based in Oestrich Winkel in the heart of the Rheingau, the estate has grown dramatically over the last 60 years from 1.5 ha to 70 ha, making it one of the biggest family-owned wineries in the Rheingau.

Nestled in the heart of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG area, the Althea Winery is surrounded by beautiful Rive or hills which are recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

The 2018 vintage has a deep garnet colour in the glass with dried cherries and mature red fruits on the nose. The palate is rich and concentrated with cranberries, raisins, and dates; there is good acidity with fine tannins. It has an enticing smoky, dusty fruit with soft liquorice undertones and at 6 years of age upon release, it is already developed and mature.

Domaine de Désiré Petit’s Crémant is made using the ‘methode traditionelle’, from Chardonnay purposely grown on poor soils to maintain good acidity in the wine. Bottling is generally carried out during the January to March following harvest, after which the wine spends 12 to 15 months on its lees before disgorgement and dosage of 0.6cl per litre.

Lively, lush, late harvest wine, the natural sugar concentration is balanced by refreshing acidity. Floral, fruity intense aromas, a touch of minerality and fresh fruity lingering finish.

The Szent Tamás winery was founded by two Hungarian businessmen and the son of Hungary's most famous and influential producers- Istevan Szepsy. They firmly believe the village of MÁD in the remote Tokaj region of Hungary is one of the great wine producing areas of the world. Working with vineyards that were shaped by several volcanic eruptions millions of years ago, their goal is to ensure that the once world renowned Tokaj Crus of MÁD would capture wine world`s attention again. Currently are working with 15 hectares of old vines in 9 different Crus, the MÁD Dry Furmint was created to be a benchmark representation of the village of MÁD through the collaborative work of the Szent Tamás winery and an ever growing number of small landowners.

Les Cailloux is a very stoney and limestone 40 year old vineyard of 1 hectare. Sitting at 340m above sea level on a plateau, the stones here are larger and not only provide a great mineral backbone to the wines, but also keep the grapes warm into the evening. The 2019 is excellent, very green, lean and with a hint of the grassy green notes. Great acidity and structure and should age very nicely. 15 months ageing in 228L barrels.

As you walk through the rolling vineyards of the 700 hectare Cramele Recas estate, two things are inescapable. The first is the scale of the transformation that Englishman Philip Cox and his wife Elvira have managed to achieve, replanting 700 hectares of decrepit vineyards and replacing them with immaculately tended sites the equal of anywhere else in the world. The second is that if you didn't know where you were, you'd be convinced you were in Tuscany or any other "Classic" wine producing region. And, to a certain extent you are, Romania has a history of wine making stretching back millennia and it was this potential that has driven this dynamic duo to dedicate their lives to driving forward Romanian wine making to it's current state of rude health. A 20 million euro investment in the vineyards and brand new winery.

Rich and dry with a nutty character, with a generous 30 years of maturation in oak adding layers of complexity and flavour.

The Shilda winery lies at the foot of the southern slope of the Caucasus Mountain range and this special climate and the diversity of the mineral-rich soil creates spectacular wines.

Fresh floral aromas combine with characteristic sweet brioche overtones, balanced by peach skin and baked biscuit flavours with a crisp citrus finish.

Food match: Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels with watermelon and mint salad or tabbouleh.

Piquepoul Noir has been grown in Southern France for at least 200 years, but is now rarely seen. Originally from the Languedoc, it is one of the 13 grapes permitted in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. 

Le Colombier is the flagship red blend from Massaya made from Grenache Noir, Cinsault and Tempranillo sourced from around 40 year old hillside vineyards in the Bekaa Valley. The grapes are hand picked, fermented in stainless steel and then aged for a year in large vats. A bright, juicy red with hints of spice and pepper.
