The Cirò DOC is a picturesque corner of the Mediterranean, along the Ionian coast, in the eastern foothills of the Calabria region, a large peninsula that forms the toe to Italy’s boot. The Parrilla family, who own and run Tenuta del Conte, have been making wine here for four generations, the latest of which to take over the estate are Mariangela, Giuseppe, and Caterina.

In 2011 Mariangela Parrilla took over as winemaker. Mariangela takes a philosophical approach to winemaking, with the aim to let these traditional indigenous grape varieties speak for themselves and their terroir. Her wines are all organic, no herbicides or chemicals are used at any stage of the production process, she opts for spontaneous fermentations using indigenous yeasts, no filtration, and solely stainless-steel and bottle aging. Taking each wine vintage by vintage she lets them evolve and age “according to their own natural rhythm”, making each wine unique. This could be just one year in bottle before release or over 10 years. Not only does she capture the unique character of the grape variety but that of the vintage it's from too.


Together with a handful of other wineries in the area, Mariangela is part of “The Cirò Revolution”, a group formed to promote and protect their territory’s identity. They are dedicated to organic viticulture and minimal intervention winemaking, they make traditional wines, in homage to their ancestors, from native grape varieties.

Burgundy is renowned for a jigsaw of small plots, fitting side by across the rolling cotes and cru with many different owners - the result of equal inheritance. While some heirs want to make wine, others prefer to live their lives elsewhere, meaning their plots go unloved. Enter Patrice du Jeu, a Parisian restaurateur with the dynamism and energy to revive such plots. Together with family and friends, he managed to buy several parcels in excellent terroirs of the Côte de Beaune including Santenay, Chassagne Montrachet and Mercurey. Joining with white Burgundy expert Jean-Baptise Alinc the wines of these heirs - Les Héritiers - are both technically competent and beautifully crafted.

Crisp, vibrant, lemon citrus with intense buttery, toasted vanilla notes. Fermentation was carried out using a mix of wild and Burgundy yeasts in 2 year old French oak and stainless steel, adding a rich mouthfeel, excellent body and notes of ripe stone fruit, brioche and honey. Wonderful lingering finish.

Tokaji wines have enjoyed a long, glorious history. Louis XIV of France described them as “The wine of Kings and King of wines”, whilst Catherine the Great of Russia stationed a contingent of Cossack soldiers in the region to protect the vineyards and escort the wine on its journey to St. Petersburg. Many European monarchs are known to have enjoyed Tokaji wines over the centuries. Napoleon III ordered 30–40 barrels of Tokaji for the Imperial Court each year, while Emperor Franz Joseph sent Queen Victoria a gift of Tokaji every year on her birthday - a dozen bottles for each year of her age.

The wine has a deep purple-red colour & intense aromas of blackberries & blueberries. Amber with orange hues. Stone fruits, peach and white flowers notes on the nose. Intense with pronounced but soft tannins coming from the skin contact balanced with refreshing acidity. Medium bodied and moreish, with very good length.

A lively bright colour in the glass with tropical aromas of passion fruit and lychee. The palate is vibrant with refreshing acidity – moreish would be an understatement.

Grapes for this wine were sourced in two parcels – the first from Stellenbosch, which was fermented in stainless steel tanks, the second, from the Swartland, was fermented in older French oak barrels. These components were then blended together to create a deliciously fresh, fruit forward chenin.

Aromas of fresh hazelnuts, candle wax, citrus (lemon and lime) herbs, white peach and granny smith apple.
The palate is powerful and concentrated with fresh acidity, saltiness and a chalky minerality on the very long finish.

The Kalkofen vineyard is located on the western edge of the town of Deidesheim, which is in the heart of the Palatinate wine growing area. The name of the vineyard, Kalkofen, is an old limestone-brick oven in the middle-ages. There is a high content of limestone in this part of the area, which gives a lot of minerality to the vines and is noticeable in the fine wines produced from these Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards.

Concentrated aromas of red berries, sweet liquorice, red berries, tobacco, forest floor and minerality. Rich and textured palate full of almond and smoky flavours. Complex, layered with mulberry and savoury, meaty notes with a long, dry finish.

Sijnn is prounounced 'sen', or 'seine'

David and Rita Trafford discovered the Sijnn land in Malgas in 2000. The soil and landscape reminded them of Portugal and they were immediately intrigued. A purchase agreement and 200 soil profiles later, 10 hectares were planted and the name Sijnn Wines was appropriated fittingly so as the word Sijnn; is derived from the Khoisan word meaning riverbank. Sijnn is on a plateau of slate and pebbles, about 15km from the southern oceans of Africa. A new winery was built at Malgas in time for the 2015 harvest. Most vineyards are on alluvial deposits on the Bokkeveld shale base – balancing intensity, structure and aromatic complexity and finesse. These very poor, complex soils encourage a deep root system, and low growth/ low yield giving intense, complex wines of character. “Low Profile” refers to 200+ profile holes dug to
determine the best sites to plant vines, and is a blend of earlier drinking vats.

The 'Clos de Bellecroix' site borders Chagny and faces gently north meaning it’s almost always the last vineyard to be picked. Classic violet and cherry nose. Tightly knit structure, with a seductive mix of crunchy red and black fruits and a touch of balsamic. Lots of aging potential. Drink 2024 to 2030

This wine is luxuriously sweet and divinely tempting. Layers of coffee, After-Eight chocolates, black berries and prunes dominate but they are beautifully balanced with a firm structure of acid and fine grained tannins.

One of the largest producers in the region, Tornatore owns 46 hectares of vineyards on the north side of Mount Etna, 1,000m above sea level.  Light straw yellow with intense green reflections.

The estate was founded in 1865 and is still run by the third generation of the same family. Their focus is on native grape varieties Nerello Mascalese, Nero Cappucci, Carricante and Catarratto, while their winemaking style is more modern in its approach, with lower alcohol and more emphasis on fruit.

59 year-old vines, some of the oldest in South Africa. This complex and interesting Chenin is fermented and matured in clay eggs, producing distinctive notes of yellow apple alongside green melon and lime on the nose. This wine is beautifully structured on the palate, bursting with fresh yellow and white fruit flavours and a subtle yet distinctive finish.
