Summer Wine Fair 2019

Fresh, zippy and oh so easy drinking throughout the year! A burst of aromatic complexity: notes of citrus fruit (grapefruit, lemon and lime), floral notes (white flowers, linden leaves, hawthorn blossom) together with mineral notes. Elegant and fine wine with a refreshing delicately saline finish.

A complex bouquet of crushed rose petals, wild jasmine and fresh French herbs. The palate shows beautiful purity with layered red fruits, cranberry, raspberry, silky tannins and a long, savoury finish.

70% of the grapes came from Stanford, Walker Bay and 30% from Elgin, both in the cool climate region Cape South Coast. The vines are all Burgundian, clone 115. The Stanford vineyard is close to the southernmost tip of Africa and is located in one of South Africa’s coolest wine producing regions. The maritime vineyard enjoys a long ripening season, because of the strong cooling winds that are prevalent in the summer. This microclimate is ideal for creating a long hang time, concentrating the flavours in the berries, while retaining natural acidity levels. Elgin is situated at 400
metres above sea level and ripens even later then the coastal vineyard. The vines
here, planted in shale and clay soils, produce fleshier fruit, adding weight to the final
blend.

A unique sparkiling red wine that is interesting and sophisticated. Ripe stone fruit and blueberry characters. Delicious as an aperitif or with tricky to pair desserts.

Evro originates from Rallo’s exceptional estate vineyards in Alcamo, in one of Sicilia’s premier growing areas. Pale yellow to straw yellow with light green reflections. The bouquet shows citrusy notes and marked apple scent. There is a distinct minerality on the palate – a trademark of Rallo’s wines – with rich mouth-feel and persistent finish. This is a seductive wine.

Lemon yellow colour which is clean and bright. A very expressive aroma with citrus and grapefruit, spices and vanilla scents. A fresh and very well balanced wine with balanced acidity and a long citrus finish.

From the Euganei hills in Veneto, Pinot Nero vines were planted by the Biscardo family over 20 years ago in volcanic soils, rich in minerals and clay. These characters are found in their Rosapasso: a smooth, fresh and structured rosé, light salmon-pink in colour.

Evocatively named and beautifully packaged; the elegant aromatic profile comes from 100% Cinsault grapes grown in the Languedoc. Rose petal pink, fresh raspberry notes on the nose and complex palate with hints of cherry, pomegranate and touch of cassia.

Innovation is rare in the wine world, but the innovation of a new category, that of a year­round Rose drinking, is one of the few major changes of drinking habit that has occurred in the recent past. This is a style of wine that will help even the most hardened of sceptics see the wine through rose tinted spectacles!

Straw like colour with greenish hues. Attractive aromas of nectarine, hints of lemon zest and white flower notes. The pallet has great texture and depth and finishes with beautifully balanced acidity, long and flavoursome mid pallet with rich texture reflect conditions of the vintage.

This is a Chardonnay of great purity, reflecting site and the season in which it was grown. Meticulous attention and care in the vineyard is most critical in allowing that expression. Elgin is one of the Cape’s coolest wine growing areas with favourable climatic, soil and topographic conditions.

Aromatic on the nose, dry, fresh, clean and fruity white blend. Great value for money!

Gorgeous, deep golden colour. Rich, sweet and nutty nose. Softly sweet and wonderfully balanced palate. Perfect chilled as an aperitif.

Pale Lemon Colour. Aromas of green apple and citrus fruits. On the palate has fruit and mineral notes, very interesting texture and balanced acidity. Fresh and lingering finish. We love this wine!

Granja Amareleja vineyards are located in the left bank of Guadiana River, where the soils are sandy and the temperatures the highest in Alentejo reaching >40C. Moreto grape variety is the ex-libris of the viticulture here, where it continues to be cultivated, mostly, ungrafted (“Pé-Franco”). Perhaps for this reason its wines are so aromatic, balanced and distinct.

Delicately sweet and elegant Riesling from the Speck family in Ontario. Peach, apricot and honey blossom notes with a long mineral finish.

Pretty and poised Pinot.

Classic cranberry and red current aromas giving us a wine with enough bite and texture to be foody but with enough generosity of fruit to be a delicious glass on its own. A touch of oak in the wine making lends a little soothing creaminess to the finish.

A serious rosé with a strong personality.

Beautiful pale salmon colour with an appealing lemon and herb nose followed by flavours of warm southern French herbs with rich, rounded fruit.  Very much a food wine with a powerful character and a delicious dry finish.

Domaine Lafran Veyrolles is an estate with a superb terroir and is widely recognised as one of the top three producers in the appellation. Jean-Marie Castell runs this small, traditional estate with just 10 ha of vines on the famous red clay soil of Bandol.  The estate nestles in and is protected by the hills of the Cadière d'Azur and benefits from a maritime climate. The estate is farmed organically and the yields are kept extremely low. Domaine Lafran Veyrolles reds have made it one of the star performers of the appellation … but don’t overlook the rosé wines as they deserve attention too!
