 Food Match: This wine fits excellent to roast veal, wildfowl (pheasant, partridge), and coq au vin. Pairs very nicely with mushroom risotto/pasta dishes too. 

Now in its fourth generation of winemakers, the 40 hectare estate is run by Johann Reinisch's three sons: Hannes, Michael and Christian. With a 2,000 year legacy of wine growing in the region, the Reinischs maintain traditions with vineyards planted with 65 % red and 35 % white vines. 

Straw yellow in colour. Concentrated, persistent mousse. Generous on the nose, intense and well balanced with delicate white flower notes, such as wisteria and acacia blossom, with notes of green apple and pear. Very dry 'brut' in style with only 4g/l residual sugar, with crisp acidity on the palate, very dry yet richly-flavoured, with a long stoney finish.

Winemaker Andre is always interested in experimenting with new and old methods. He is the 5th generation of winemakers at Quinta do Montalto, the farm has 15Ha of Vineyards grown with organic certification since 1997 in Clay and Chalk soils under the Lisbon DOC Encostas D’Aire.

Aromas of fresh red cherries with a hint of cocoa powder. Medium bodied on the palate with black berry and red cherry fruit, juicy acidity and a chocolatey finish.

Very pale straw yellow sparkling with fine, persistent bubbles. Intensely fruity aromas with clear hints of ripe golden apple, exotic fruit salad and citrus fruits, alongside a floral aroma reminiscent of wisteria flowers. On the palate La Rivetta is fresh, dry and austere but at the same time smooth, with soft fruity flavours.

The 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is one of the most elegant, polished wines in this range. Bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, spice, mint and cedar are beautifully lifted. The tannins are remarkably polished for a young, recently bottled Riserva. I admire its poise and elegance. This is an especially refined edition of the Montestefano. In 2020, the mix of vineyards is a bit younger than in the past, as one of the blocks of older vineyards was replanted and not used. If I could have only one of the Riservas in 2020, this would be it!

Pelaverga is not a very widely grown grape variety, native to the Verduno commune in Piemonte. The soil in this area of the North West of Italy is rich in clay and gypsum crystals. Poderi Colla have hand harvested the rare Pelaverga grapes. Sometimes also labelled as 'Basadone' which translates as 'little kiss' the Pelaverga grape is known locally as a supposed aphrodisiac!

Fragrant, floral aromas of rose and violet with notes of oriental spice and wild, red berry fruit and an appealing earthy complexity.
