Caruso & Minini are a part of new revival in Sicilian wine. Smaller wineries have sprung up in the past decade with private investment and strong interest in the potential of the native grapes from Sicily. One example is Caruso & Minini. When Mario Manini met Stefano Caruso is sparked a long-held dream to produce a wine in the historical winemaking region of Marsala in Western Sicily.

A rich and textured white wine with great depth and complexity given from being made in clay amphora. Matches beautifully with antipasto and meat dishes, but equally very friendly drunk without food.

Grapes: Incrocio Bruni 54

ABV: 13%

Incrocio Bruni 54 is a crossing by pollenation of Sauvignon Blanc and Verdicchio which was done in 1936 by Professor Bruno Bruni while working for the Italian Ministry of Agriculture. It is only found in the Marche region and Tenuta Santi Giacomo e Filippo are championing it as Marche's flagship grape. Rightly so!

Massaya Rose is made with 100% Cinsault, grown on hillside vineyards in the Beqaa Valley, at an altitude of around 1000m. This beautifully balanced and expressive rosé has lovely freshness, due to the altitude and is aged in stainless steel vats for 8 months. It is bottled in late spring the following year after harvest.

A beautifully made medium bodied red from Greece from indigenous varietal Koiniariko. Aromas of sweet spice, black pepper and crushed strawberries. Black cherry and supple tannins on the palate with a long, soft finish.

Le Colombier is the flagship red blend from Massaya made from Grenache Noir, Cinsault and Tempranillo sourced from around 40 year old hillside vineyards in the Bekaa Valley. The grapes are hand picked, fermented in stainless steel and then aged for a year in large vats. A bright, juicy red with hints of spice and pepper.

Nestled in the heart of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG area, the Althea Winery is surrounded by beautiful Rive or hills which are recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

A beautiful, elegant sparkling blanc de noirs which shows concentration, elegance and freshness. Expressive, tart red berry fruits, strawberry and raspberry, classic notes of freshly baked bread from 24 months on the lees.

Champagne Guy de Forez is based in the pretty village of Les Riceys, in the southern part of the Côte des Bar. The village boasts the largest vineyard area in Champagne (866 ha), and today, its wines are in high demand from the Grandes Marques houses for their outstanding quality Pinot Noir grapes.

A brilliant ruby red colour, the aromas hinting at currants and cassis with notes of herbs and bitter cherry whilst the palate is elegantly structured, with characters of red currant, and ripe cherries. A long, sophisticated finish. This wine is drinking beautifully now, but will evolve nicely over the next 2-5 years.

On the west side of Sicily close to Marsala, Caruso Minini have their 4th generation vineyards and winery. 

A fresh blend of Sauvignon Blanc and indigenous Obeidi. It is aged on its lees for 8 months in foudres and 500l oak barrels giving the wine some weight and texture. The vineyards are situated on the foothills of Mount Lebanon, around Faqra, at around 1400m altitude. Crisp and clean with a citrus character and an oriental twist, thanks to the local Obeidi.

A silky and juicy red wine. An aroma of red berries with wild thyme that take you to notes of liquorice, raspberry leaf, cherry and herbs.

A delicious rich and ripe red made in a Rhone Valley style. Very juicy and full of red and black fruit characters, notes of herbs and some sweet spice with a lengthy finish.

A fine, non vintage sparkling wine made from the classic Champagne varietals – 12% Chardonnay, 82% Pinot Noir, 6% Pinot Meunier. Delicate pink colour, on the nose it has floral and yeasty brioche notes combined with zesty apple and citrus fruit, fresh and clean with a soft mousse and a vibrant finish.
