'From there, I went to Pegasus Bay, and it was here that I was so impacted. This is an iconic Riesling producer—Rieslings worth crossing the ocean for. They age slowly and gracefully, employ botrytis as a textural aid and are thundering examples of Riesling from New Zealand. I can’t overstate that. These are collectors’ wines. I have seen older examples in Australia over the years, served blind, that have taken the room by storm. My thanks to Winemaker Matt Donaldson for the afternoon; it took us in directions I think neither of us expected.'

Pegasus Bay Riesling Bel Canto 2022 – 94 points.

The 2022 Bel Canto Dry Riesling leads with loquat, kumquat and orange rind. In the mouth, the wine is floral, detailed and full—it is actually quite wide, spreading to all corners of the mouth, leaving a trail of fine chalky texture in its wake. Really good. Cave de l'Ormarine is an award winning Cave producing wines from the tiny Pinet appelation in the Herault. Set up in 1992, bit with a history dating back to 1922 Cave de l'Ormarine has made significant investment in the winery and prides itself on the high standards and traceability of its grapes.

Pale Lemon Colour. Aromas of green apple and citrus fruits. On the palate has fruit and mineral notes, very interesting texture and balanced acidity. Fresh and lingering finish. We love this wine!

Granja Amareleja vineyards are located in the left bank of Guadiana River, where the soils are sandy and the temperatures the highest in Alentejo reaching >40C. Moreto grape variety is the ex-libris of the viticulture here, where it continues to be cultivated, mostly, ungrafted (“Pé-Franco”). Perhaps for this reason its wines are so aromatic, balanced and distinct.

Pet Nat is low intervention sparkling wine , traditionally cloudy, unfiltered and left to do its own thing. This little beauty is a light, zippy, refreshing sparkler with a crown cap. No added S02!

On the border between Rioja and Navarra, Victor Manzanos carries on the work of the four generations before him.

With over 250ha of owned vineyards at his disposal, including some of the oldest vines in Rioja, Bodegas Manzanos is fortunately placed to put both the sub-region of Rioja Oriental and the name Manzanos firmly on the map as one of the most important areas and producers in Rioja. This range of wines is a modern take on the traditional landscape of Rioja, championing the native grape varieties, Tempranillo, Viura and Garnacha. The team is the youngest in the region, a talented a group of people with the sole purpose of making wines that people will enjoy.

A long maceration of 28 days at a controlled temperature and 24 months ageing in American and French oak casks, half and half, followed by a further twelve months rounding off in the bottle. This has all gone to produce a wine with great body and extract.

Dark cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant and blueberry aromas are complimented by cassis, tea leaves, dried rosemary and dried spices. Delicious savoury characters are followed by succulent berry fruit on the finish.

6 Bottles of Trulli Susumaniello 

The lesser known Susumaniello grape is native to the South Italian region of Puglia. We love it for its rich aromas of blackcurrants, cherry and cranberry. On the palate it has ripe black cherry fruit with savoury notes of black olive and tomato with a sweet cocoa powder finish.

This is a big and powerful red wine, very dark red in colour. The nose has plenty of dark fruit aromas, plums, black cherries, chocolate, dried fruit and slight herbaceous notes. The palate is full, dense and rich with intense and sweet, ripe fruit.  The finish is has a touch of residual sugar, giving some natural sweetness, and is full, rich and lingering.

Classic cranberry and red current aromas giving us a wine with enough bite and texture to be foody but with enough generosity of fruit to be a delicious glass on its own. A touch of oak in the wine making lends a little soothing creaminess to the finish.

Recently elevated to Garda DOC, this Garganega Pinot Grigio is selected from high quality vineyards in the area between Lake Garda and Vicenza. The addition of Garganega makes a more interesting, characterful wine than many basic Pinot Grigios. It evokes thoughts of summer evenings sipping wine by the shores of the lake!

Lightly aromatic with ripe stone fruit and citrus characters. A zesty, easy to drink dry white wine with considerable texture and soft, lightly honeyed fruit on the finish.

A wonderful example of the Fiano grape. Close your eyes and you could be in Southern Italy! (almost). 

Straw yellow in colour, with an elegant floral aroma of mango, peaches and sage. On the palate is crisp and refreshing, with tropical notes and exotic fruit.  The finish is incredibly well balanced, long and persistent.
