Jamie Goode in Wine Anorak: 12.5% alcohol. A blend of local white varieties from Pedra Alta’s highest plots. Complex and nicely restrained with taut lemony fruit and some notes of pear and white peach. Lively and precise with good acidity and nice purity, this has the potential to develop with time, and it’s almost Burgundian in style. 94/100

Brick red colour. Pronounced nose of sultanas, dried apricot and raspberry, and a touch of spice. The palate is rich and complex with layers of dried fruits, butterscotch, hazelnut, spice and cinnamon. Full and generous on the finish.

This wine will benefit from being served slightly chilled (12 - 16ºC). It doesn't need to be decanted , and it's worth noting that colheitas can be enjoyed for a while after opening without losing freshness and vibrancy - optimum drinking time after opening is 2-3 months. 

This golden coloured wine has a welcome reductive nose with hints of mineral, gunpowder and stone combined with delicate fruits, citrus and white flowers. Excellent acidity, minerals and herbal touches on the palate this is complex and intense with a lovely long finish.

The wine spent 3 weeks on the skins and was fermented in concrete with minimal interventention. This is a low sulphite wine that is good introduction to the orange wine styles with wonderful texture and tannins.

The Douro Valley has been the home of Port for centuries. More recently, many Quinta or wine estates have been turning their hand to making elegant and often long lived still red and white wine. Quinta da Pedra Alta is one of those producers. We have been very impressed with João Pires' modern winemaking techniques, capturing the potential of still wines from this beautiful country.

The Quinta da Pedra Alta (high stone) winery is located in Soutelinho Favaios near Alijó, in the Cima Corgo sub-region of the Douro Valley, Portugal. Quinta da Pedra Alta is the only vineyard in the Douro to have three granite markers (Marcos Pombalinos) on its property. These were awarded to the best land during the demarcation of the Port region in 1761. Winemakers Matt Gant and João Pires share the same vision when it comes to making wines: they endeavour to find the essence of what the land has to offer.
