Piquepoul Noir has been grown in Southern France for at least 200 years, but is now rarely seen. Originally from the Languedoc, it is one of the 13 grapes permitted in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. 

Full of orchard fruit and white flowers. The palate is round and well-structured, with lots of white peach wrapped around dried herbs and a savoury, steely backbone.

Organic

Amoterra means to ‘love the land’, this is the vineyards ethos. The harvesting period of the Trebbiano starts from the second week of September. As soon as the grapes arrive in the cellar they are crushed and de-stemmed, then softly pressed. Cold maceration for 24 hours at 8 degrees. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel for about 10-15 days.

Aromatic, medium to full bodied and powerful, with good extraction of the sweet flavours of black ripe fruits. Elegant with good texture and firm tannins, giving wine great ageing potential. A touch of mint, with lavender notes. Firm, well balanced oak and long finish with fresh, spicy, integrated mouthfeel.

Andreas Wine

Andreas only produce this wine - and they are good at it. The wine is aged for 18 months in French and American oak and bottle matured for another year. Winemaker Shaun Meyeridricks' first first vintage was in 2018, since joining Andreas from Boekenhoutskloof where he was previously making exemplary Shiraz.

This delightful orange wine is made of mostly Muscat with a touch of Semillon. It makes for a beautifully fresh and bright wine with bold notes of apricot, candied lemon and a touch of sea salt and nuts for that lovely fresh bite. The 10 days on skins gives a chewy wine gum notes with fine tannin to coat the palate and an oxidative nutty finish. Fresh and complex, making a fantastic gastronomic South African wine.

Stellenbosch, this famous region, is 30 miles north east of Cape Town yet still close enough to the ocean to benefit from cool maritime conditions. These beautiful vineyards are dominated by scenic mountains and the region is home to some of the Cape`s most famous and influential wine estates. The most noted and important vineyards are located on the prized slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. This small and highly rated sub-zone has fantastic terroir and is where many of South Africa`s top red cuvees are produced.

Angus Paul had their first vintage in 2020, creating wines with a focus on South African Heritage, using Chenin, Muscat and Pinotage soon expanding with Cinsault. The wines are made with minimal intervention to make quality wines that truly express the varieties characteristics. The labels are inspired by the ‘Age of exploration’ when the South African wine industry was founded, with graphics of superstitious tales from exploratory sailors.

Palo cortado is a special type of sherry that starts its life and maturation under protective flor, destined to become a fino or amontillado.

Partway through the maturation it loses its veil of flor and begins oxidative ageing as an oloroso sherry would.

This combined maturation results in a wine with some of the richness of oloroso and some of the freshness of amontillado. It is a rare beverage though as just 1 to 2% of the grapes pressed for sherry naturally develop into palo cortado.

A very full-flavoured sherry with fruit intensity and concentration on the nose and palate. Lots of dried fruit with light toffee sweetness and oak caramel. Delicious!

The Biscardo Family have been making wine from their base in Soave for over 150 years and the operations are currently led by brothers Maurizio and Martino Biscardo. Renowned for their Proseccos and Corvina based reds in particular, they are also involved in a fascinating project in Puglia. During the course of Maurizio's long and illustrious career, he has consulted for well known wineries around Italy and in doing so he came across the vineyards that provide the grapes for their Puglian wines. As the lands starts to rise, inland northwest of Valencia, you will find Roselia Molina heading up Bodegas Altolandon. The property consists of 120 hectares with the winery resting right in the centre, not only making it aesthetically satisfying but also extremely practical. At 1,100 metres above sea level, the altitude serves to benefit the grapes with large diurnal variations which encourage even ripening and also helping retain their natural acidity. Organic methods are used to manage the vines utilising only natural fertilisers and some green pruning to further guarantee the quality of fruit prior to hand-harvesting. The grapes are vinified as naturally as possible with native yeasts and little other intervention. The wines are then aged in French oak and some in clay amphora to retain purity, but build complexity.

A complex wine that blends freshness with hints of vanilla and richness. A textured, saline and dry finish.
