Christmas Tasting 2024

Christmas Tasting 2024

Dearest gentle reader,

Did you miss me? I, for one, have missed you terribly during this whirlwind of holiday preparations. But fear not, for I return with a tale most delicious, and one that will undoubtedly add a touch of sparkle to your festive season.

It seems that whispers of a most extravagant soirée have already reached your ears. On the 22nd of November, Cellar Door Wines hosted a truly remarkable Christmas Wine Fair at the esteemed St Albans Museum. A gathering of no fewer than 200 esteemed guests, who indulged in a tasting of over 100 wines, all while celebrating the glorious 20th anniversary of Cellar Door Wines.

From the most luxurious Prosecco and Champagne to the rich and full-bodied Bordeaux and Rioja, the selection of wines on offer was enough to leave even the most seasoned connoisseur agog. Your humble author was, I admit, quite taken with the festive atmosphere — the grand chandeliers above casting their sparkling glow upon the room, their glimmer reflecting the lively bubbles in each glass. And of course, how could I forget the magnificent Christmas tree standing proudly outside, adding that final touch of holiday magic to the entire evening?

Inside the museum room, a most impressive 13 suppliers each presented a curated collection of 100 wines — an enviable array, I dare say. Among the standouts were the Adami Prosecco Superiore, Amarone, Crémant de Loire, Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, and, of course, a selection of English sparkling and Italian Nebbiolo. There was also a delightful Bulgarian Pet Nat and a Ukrainian red that caught the attention of many guests.

Once the tasting had concluded, attendees were, I hear, able to order their Christmas wine for delivery or collection at Cellar Door’s headquarters in the Verulam Industrial Estate. And, dear reader, it appears that many did not hesitate to stock their cellars — spending upwards of £1,000 per household and ordering no fewer than 84 bottles. I, too, indulged in a bottle of Italian Nebbiolo — though, I confess, it is hardly the least expensive option, but one cannot resist the finer things in life, can one?

Cellar Door Wines remains ever so obliging, still accepting orders for your Christmas gifts, should you require assistance. Their knowledgeable team, much like diligent elves, is ever ready to offer expert advice. And do not forget — those of you who are so inclined can sample no less than 16 wines, entirely free of charge, at their charming shop.

Consider yourself most fortunate, dear reader, to be in such good hands this festive season.

Yours ever in wine and wonder,

Lady Vino
