'From there, I went to Pegasus Bay, and it was here that I was so impacted. This is an iconic Riesling producer—Rieslings worth crossing the ocean for. They age slowly and gracefully, employ botrytis as a textural aid and are thundering examples of Riesling from New Zealand. I can’t overstate that. These are collectors’ wines. I have seen older examples in Australia over the years, served blind, that have taken the room by storm. My thanks to Winemaker Matt Donaldson for the afternoon; it took us in directions I think neither of us expected.'

Pegasus Bay Riesling Bel Canto 2022 – 94 points.

The 2022 Bel Canto Dry Riesling leads with loquat, kumquat and orange rind. In the mouth, the wine is floral, detailed and full—it is actually quite wide, spreading to all corners of the mouth, leaving a trail of fine chalky texture in its wake. Really good. Heavenly sweet treat from the steep banks of the Danube!

Soft, harmonious, with subtle mineral tones, which gradually turn into tropical fruits. Aroma: fresh, bright, with dominant notes of mango and white peach, elegant flowery notes.

The estate winery "Kolonist" was founded by the Plachkov family in 2005 in Bessarabia,
Ukraine. Named in honour of Bulgarian colonists who came to these lands over 200 years ago. The winery started with 30,000 bottles of wine on the market, today it produces 350,000 bottles, which include classic aged reds and whites, Haut de Gamme wines, sparkling wine "Bisser" by classic method, semi-dry and sweet wines. In addition, Kolonist makes grape seed oil, two types of balsamic vinegar and some cosmetics.

Bright green-yellow with shimmering reflections. On the nose very aromatic, juicy  apricot and a hint of vineyard peach, some citrus; white pepper and fresh meadow herbs; very juicy and vibrant on the palate; the refreshing acid balances the wine perfectly; salty-mineral, structured and elegant with intense fruit aromas in the finish. Very long lasting; typical traits of the Achleiten.

The Allendorf family has lived and worked in the Rheingau for 700 years. Based in Oestrich Winkel in the heart of the Rheingau, the estate has grown dramatically over the last 60 years from 1.5 ha to 70 ha, making it one of the biggest family-owned wineries in the Rheingau.

Great balance and fruit in this high quality Alsace Riesling.

A pure fruit driven nose, perfumed with cut limes and a hint of petrol and candle wax. The wine has a voluptuous, honeyed palate and is intensely fruity with white peach and apricot flavours and mineral complexity. The finish is dry, refreshing and beautifully balanced, and incredibly open for a young Alsace Riesling.
