Wimbushes Vineyard St Albans

Andy and Karina Harrison decided to plant an acre of vines on their beautiful Chiswell Green property about 10 years ago, as a hobby. In 2018 they appointed Suffolk winemaker (and ex-surgeon) Michael Rhodes to turn their Solaris and Rondo grapes into wine.  In recent years, due to careful vineyard management by David Savage and the vines maturing healthily, the fruit and their talented winemaker, they have produced some seriously good English wine. These wines are produced in very small quantities, so we do tend to limit the amount of bottles purchased by any one household.

The sparkling rosé is a seriously sophisticated wine that offers notes of raspberry and wild strawberry, with subtle savoury undertones adding complexity. The sparkling wine is produced following the same traditional method as is used to produce Champagne, providing a luxurious, flavour-filled wine. 

Beautifully packaged so it makes a great gift too.

A Pinot Noir-dominated blend.  Aged on the lees for at least 36 months with a small proportion fermented in old oak barrels, the result is rich and creamy with a clean and moreish finish. Aromas and flavours Amalfi lemons, crunchy white peach, honey drizzled on brioche, strawberries and cream topped with toasted almonds, apple pie, poached pear and warm baguette.

It's not easy to make decent red wines in this country..but Bolney seem to have the secret of how it is done! 

This medium-bodied dry wine has aromas that consist of blackberry, black cherry and peppery spice. The palate shows ripe blackcurrant and red berry flavours with herbaceous character held together with good tannic structure. There is good acidity and a smooth, smoky and velvety finish.

Somerset craft apple cider...

Hunky Punk is Somerset dialect for a maverick, pagan creature whose images are found carved onto the walls and sides of buildings and who are very similar in appearance to gargoyles. These images are especially found on Late Gothic Churches, which are abundant in this part of England. He is our very own symbol of Somerset mischief & mayhem - “bring out the Punk”! Our apples are sourced from local Somerset farms, so Hunky Punk is made from apple juice from an orchard, rather than just from apple concentrate. Top ciders like Hunky Punk insist on using 100% fermented juice from the most desired Bitter-sweet and Bitter-sharp apple varieties.

Gardner Street Classic has the classic floral, elderflower note we have come to know of contemporary Bacchus married with a touch of stone fruit from the Chardonnay. On the palate there's an abundance of red apple fruit, a touch of wild fennel with the barrel fermented Chardonnay giving mid palate weight and structure to a wine that ultimately finishes with a brisk, present acidity.

When it comes to English wine there’s a lot to shout about, not least the stunning sparkling wines from Henners. Based just 4 miles from the sea in Herstmonceux, East Sussex, the 10 acre vineyard was created in 2007 by ex-Formula One engineer, Lawrence Warr. Planted with traditional champagne varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, the vines thrive in an idyllic microclimate created by the vineyard’s proximity of the sea, low altitude (only 24 masl) and steep sunny south facing slopes. All Henners wines are hand-crafted from start to finish; with separate fermenting of varietals and their vine clones to allow a broader range of wines for final blending, extended lees ageing for added complexity, and holding back of all bottles for at least 4 years prior to release to add depth and richness. A delicious rose from Sussex - home grown quality! 

Coral pink in colour, this elegant medium dry rosé may well be summer in a bottle with its fragrances of gardenia, raspberry and lychee but its full palate makes it ideal for year round drinking. Linger over its fresh gooseberry and apple flavours and smooth finish with a hint of vanilla fudge.

Gorgeous, toasty and rich. Biscuity brioche on the nose with delicate white flower and full fruit. Citrus, red apple and 'Leesy' characters add complexity to the palate.

Crisp, vibrant, lemon citrus with intense buttery, toasted vanilla notes. Fermentation was carried out using a mix of wild and Burgundy yeasts in 2 year old French oak and stainless steel, adding a rich mouthfeel, excellent body and notes of ripe stone fruit, brioche and honey. Wonderful lingering finish.
